Chain Reaction Accident - Who is at Fault

1. Not Easy to Find Who is At Fault

Chain reaction accidents are accidents where more than two cars are involved. In this type of accident, the at-fault party will be more difficult to determine. Some scenarios of chain reaction accidents:

(i) The 3rd car pushed the 2nd car to the front that eventually hit the 1st car.

(ii) The 2nd car made a sudden stop and hit the 1st car. Because of that sudden stop the 3rd car did not have enough time to stop then it hit the 2nd car which eventually hit the 1st car.

(iii) The 1st car made a sudden stop and cars behind him did not have enough time to stop.

Bottom line, it is not easy to figure out who is at fault in a chain reaction accident.

2. Collect All Driver’s Information

Make sure to have the accident reported. However, in the scenario where there is no police report, make sure to collect information of all other driver’s. When there are more than 3 cars involved, there might be global settlement issues where all potential claimants must be notified. Having all other drivers’ information will help the case move forward faster.

3. Hire An Attorney

With the nature of chain reaction accidents having 3 or more cars involved, having an experienced personal injury attorney is highly recommended. Your attorney will help you build your case and negotiate on your behalf. Especially in global settlement cases, the other negotiators most likely will be attorneys as well so you want to make sure that you have an attorney negotiate on your behalf instead of negotiating your own case.
